An invitation to self acceptance
Recently, I bumped up against my humanity in all its glory. My humanity came in the form of a bout of Covid.
I was totally thrown off. After all, I eat right; I practice yoga almost daily; I take all sorts of immune system boosters, and I hadn't been really sick in about 3 years. I had convinced myself that I was invincible, immune to the plague that has been hitting everyone. I almost felt like a secret super hero.
So when it hit, the dreaded virus hit me hard. I was knocked down for almost 2 weeks. And my ego still hasn't risen. It was truly an experience of looking at the truth, which is my humanity, my susceptibility and to accept it and myself, just where I am. Just how I am. As I slowly returned to my life and my yoga practice, I had to face my own demons. My fears. But I also got to watch with fascination as my body repaired. Checking in with each part of my immune system and noticing as it chugged into action. We are not superheroes, but we are miracles. We break down... and then we get back up and heal. We are not invincible, but we are resilient.
I am so grateful today for my practice of yoga that invites me to take time to feel my body, hear my mind and be present in my humanity before I go back to the job of being human again.
In love, Namaste
