Yamas and Niyamas

Over the next few weeks, I will explore the Yamas and Niyamas in our newletter. At our June 10-12 retreat, we will explore these yogic guidelines in discussion, meditation and practice. Think of the Yamas and Niyamas like the guidelines on your path to happiness – the “how-to” for gaining the skills and wisdom needed to change your attitude, thoughts and beliefs to better navigate your life. How to truly live your yoga practice off the mat and in your life.

The Yamas are the first path of yoga’s Eight Limbed Path, as explained in the Yoga Sutras by Patanajali. The Yamas "restraints" are: non-violence, truthfulness, non-stealing, non-excess, and non-possessiveness. The Niyamas, the second path of the Eight Limbs, are: purity, contentment, self-discipline, self-study and surrender.

The Yamas and Niyamas originated from the ancient text of Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras. Learning about the Yamas and Niyamas forever changed how I navigate through life by studying myself and how I can better live a meaningful and more purposeful life.

Our awareness is directed to our ethics, integrity and how we show up for our lives. They’re the path to self-control.

A great resource to learn about the Yamas and Niyamas is the book Yamas and Niyamas: Exploring Yoga’s Ethical Practice.

Last month we went live with our new class reservation and payment software. Please bear with us as we make this change, we really feel that you will eventually have a smoother online experience because of it. In some cases, the software will prompt you to re-put in your payment card information. We are changing payments systems, and your card on file will not be transferred to the new system. Additionally, we are closely monitoring the old system and if it accidentally charges you, we are voiding those as quickly as we can.
If you are having any trouble signing in or paying for classes, or anything else, please feel free to call us at 360-480-7917, so we can help.

Namaste,

Lisa and Ronny
