Why Functional Strength is My Mission

As we age, (and I don't care how old you are, we are all aging) strength becomes paramount. I'm not talking about body-builder-level strength. I'm talking about the ability to get up and down from the floor, stand in line, walk to the mailbox, lift your grandchild -- functional life-skill strength.

Everyone I talk to who protests going to a yoga class always tells me, "I can't do yoga, I'm not flexible or I can't touch my toes." My response is always the same: "Doesn't matter. Yoga for me is about staying strong and vibrant. Being able to live each day in my body without pain and suffering."

We have developed practices for people of all levels focusing on strength, stability and balance. We use isometrics and your own body weight to increase upper body, lower body and core strength.

This week we are launching two NEW classes for those of you who want to get stronger and are starting over or just starting. These classes will specifically address strength, stability and balance. They will be appropriate for ALL levels.

Chair Yoga - Tuesdays at 2 p.m. at the Tumwater studio

and

Yoga for Functional Strength - Fridays at 11 a.m. at the Lacey studio

In good health, Lisa
